About Hafthor Julius Bjornsson

Thor has achieved pretty much everything there is to achieve in the sport of Strongman and is regarded by many as the strongest man to ever live. Standing at 6-foot, 9-inches and weighing in at over 32-stone, he also brings the “giant” to Giants Live! From the land of Ice and Fire, “The Mountain”, as he is known, having played that role in the popular “Game of Thrones” series, is part of the Icelandic Strongman tradition and follows in the footsteps of past World’s Strongest Man champions Jón Páll Sigmarsson and Magnús Ver Magnússon.

Björnsson is Giants Live’s most prolific winner, having topped the podium on nine occasions, including five Europe’s Strongest Man victories between 2014 and 2019. He made the podium at World’s Strongest Man eight consecutive times from 2012 to 2019, claiming the title in 2018. He is also a three-time Arnold Strongman Classic champion and winner of sixteen Icelandic titles!

Many world records have fallen to Hafthór throughout his career in a variety of lifts. He still owns the Atlas Stone record of 17.54 sec, which he set at Europe’s Strongest Man in 2017, but he’s best known for his prowess in the deadlift. Having set numerous records on the Elephant Bar, in 2020 he set a Guinness World Record of 501kg (1,105lb) in the conventional bar deadlift. Since then, the race to 505kg has seen numerous attempts at the World Deadlift Championships, but at the recent Eisenhart Black Deadlift Championships, Thor finally achieved that feat with a 1,113lb pull. He bettered this record at The World Deadlift Championships 2025 in Birmingham, where he pulled 510kg with ease in front of 8000 strongman fans.
