Life
Andrew Flynn is an England’s Strongest Man runner-up and Britain’s Strongest Man podium finisher who has become a Giants Live regular in the last two seasons. From Peacehaven in East Sussex, “Flying Flynn,” as he is known, qualified for his first World’s Strongest Man appearance in 2025. He works in materials control for Southern railway and trains in his spare time in a gym at the bottom of his garden!
Andrew describes himself first and foremost as a husband and father of two, who likes to do a bit of Strongman on the side. Coached by Tom Hibbert of Winning Strength, he brings tremendous all-round ability to his contest performances, exhibiting solid static strength in events such as Deadlift and overhead pressing, as well as superb speed and mobility in carrying and moving disciplines.
Career
Andrew has been lifting since he was just 13 years of age, and like so many other strongmen, played rugby from a young age, which encouraged him into the weight room. When he began his Strongman journey, he had a 5-year plan to qualify for England’s Strongest Man. He suffered ruptured biceps in 2017 and again in 2021 during a brick lift event, but didn’t allow these setbacks to halt his steady progression through the domestic rankings.
He made his first appearance for Giants Live at the 2023 Official Strongman European Championships, placing 5th, which was a finishing position he would replicate later that year at England’s Strongest Man. Returning the following year, he improved to 2nd place, pushing the winner, Kane Francis, right to the wire. It was a performance that would earn him an invite to the Strongman Classic where he would make a huge step-up in class. Finishing a creditable 7th overall, he proved he was by no means out of his depth in such exalted company.
Making his Britain’s Strongest Man debut in February 2025, Andrew was able to finish 3rd behind Shane Flowers and winner, Luke Stoltman. His podium finish enabled him to secure an invite to his first World’s Strongest. Making another debut performance at Europe’s Strongest Man, he placed 6th overall with solid performances in the Shield Carry and Carry and Drag. In Sacramento a month later, he placed 4th in Group 5 at WSM, with Luke Stoltman and Pavlo Kordiyaka taking the qualification places.
Throughout his career so far, Flynn’s priority has been consistency with his training and avoiding injury so he can compete more regularly. His goal is to enjoy the journey and see what happens rather than obsess and set goals that might cause undue stress. For him, longevity and a life after Strongman are just as important as success in the sport right now.
Best Title
Andrew is yet to take a major title, but in early 2025 he produced arguably the best result of his career on his debut performance at Britain’s Strongest Man. Finishing third overall, he signalled his arrival as one of Britain’s elite strongmen and earned his first invite to World’s Strongest Man. Producing an event win in the Medley, he was also joint 2nd in the Log Lift for reps, enabling him to stay half a point ahead of Paddy Haynes in 4th.
