Who will win Britain’s Strongest Man 2022? Events & Athlete Line-Up

After what felt like a lifetime between Britain’s Strongest Man in 2020 and 2021, we’re heading back to Sheffield almost immediately for what is shaping up to be a titanic battle of the Brits!

When is Britain’s Strongest Man 2022?

Britain’s Strongest Man in 2022 is being held at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield on Saturday the 26th February. 2022 marks the 5th time Giants Live have held Britain’s biggest national competition in the Steel City of Sheffield, and is the 39th time the annual competition has been held.

Who is competing at Britain’s Strongest Man this year?

When Eddie Hall, having dominated the British Strongman scene for so many years, retired back in 2018 many fans and pundits suggested the start of some lean times for Brits on the world stage. How wrong they were!

Reigning World’s Strongest Man and reigning Britain’s Strongest Man Tom Stoltman is returning to Sheffield in 2022 to defend his British title and is looking to become the first ever Scotsman to retain his crown as champion.

Big Tom Stoltman will have some serious competition though, not least from his brother, reigning Europe’s Strongest Man Luke Stoltman. Luke narrowly missed out on the podium at Britain’s Strongest Man last year and will be giving it everything he has to take top spot this time.

Former champions Adam Bishop and Graham Hicks, both podium winners last time out, are returning to the Utilita Arena in Sheffield to try and regain the top prize in national strongman competitions. Adam Bishop was achingly close to a victory in 2021 and has been training hard to close the gap to his rival Tom.

Other competitors include home-town-hero Paul Smith, Wales’ Strongest Man Gavin Bilton, the legend that is Mark Felix and Scotland’s Strongest Man Andy Black.

What are the events for Britain’s Strongest Man?

As always, Giants Live director Darren Sadler has set out a gruelling set of challenges to decide this year’s Britain’s Strongest Man winner. These 5 tests of strength are designed to test every aspect of what makes a great Strongman- both static and dynamic strength.

New for 2022 is the Sandbag throw over bar. The Giants must throw 6 huge sandbags weighing up to 28kg over a huge 4.5m+ bar (that’s higher than a double decker bus!) as fast as they can. This one should be spectacular!

We also see the return of the 200kg shield carry for max distance, the record is currently held by North Yorkshire’s Mark Steele with an incredible 60m carry. (Mark’s day job is running a removals firm, so he trains for that every day!)

Britain’s Strongest Man Events:

  • 200kg Shield Carry
  • 360kg Axle Deadlift for reps
  • 150kg Axle Press for reps
  • 6x Sandbag toss over bar
  • Castle Stones up to 200kg
