Life
Evan Singleton is a former professional wrestler and World’s Strongest Man podium finisher from
Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Known as “T-Rex,” Evan wrestled as Adam Mercer in the WWE, before
injury forced him to retire. Wrestling’s loss has proved to be strongman’s gain, and the charismatic
American has been a regular face on the Giants Live tour, winning multiple contests.
Evan is known for his larger-than-life competitive persona and t-rex claw tattoos on his hands.
Bringing unparalleled intensity to every contest he enters, he has vowed to become World’s
Strongest Man one day, and having finished 3rd in 2024, he is looking well placed to achieve that
ambition.
Career
Singleton was an amateur freestyle wrestler in high school and achieved an impressive national
ranking. After graduating, he signed for the WWE, but his career was cut short due to a serious head
injury which left him unable to exercise at all. After a brief spell in bodybuilding, Evan came across a
man log-lifting at his local gym in Lancaster, struck up a conversation, and within two weeks had
decided this was his sport.
Evan’s professional debut was North Carolina’s Strongest Man and in 2018 he made his first Giants
Live appearance at the North American Open. A year later he returned to record his first major
contest victory.
In 2020 he made his competitive debut at World’s Strongest Man after attending the previous year
as an alternate and equipment tester. A biceps injury prevented him from progressing from his heat
and more bad luck followed in 2021 when, once again, his WSM aspirations were thwarted by food
poisoning.
However, 2021 ultimately proved to be a huge year for Evan. Winning the Giants Live World Open
and Arnold UK shows, as well as deadlifting 1,000lb (453.5kg) in competition, all served to signal the
arrival of a genuine World’s Strongest Man contender.
2022 proved to be a difficult year for the T-Rex. An allergic reaction scuppered his chances at WSM,
and his contest placings dipped due to some health issues. A long break from competition seemed to
do the trick and in 2023 Evan finally put together the kind of performance everyone knew he was capable of at World’s. Placing second in his heat, he defeated Rauno Eythór Melsted in the stone off
and went on to place 5th in the final. Building on this momentum, the T-Rex recorded back-to-back victories at Giants Live shows, winning both the Strongman Classic and World Open. At the 2024 World’s Strongest Man finals, held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Evan performed superbly to record his first podium finish. He placed 3rd , behind Mitchell Hooper, and the winner, Tom Stoltman.
Best Title
At London’s Royal Albert Hall, Evan completed arguably the best contest victory of his career,
defeating both reigning World’s Strongest Man, Mitchell Hooper, and the two-time winner, Tom
Stoltman, to take the 2023 Strongman Classic victory.
With a winning margin of just half a point over Stoltman, the T-Rex was never out of the top three in
a stacked field, featuring six World’s Strongest Man finalists from that year’s competition.
