Jean Francois’ early sporting achievements included becoming Quebec alpine skiing champion. Like so many other strongmen, JF competed in powerlifting, which provided the foundation of his strength athletics career. In 2008, he first appeared at World's Strongest Man after finishing 2nd at Canada’s Strongest Man. It would be another three years before he captured the Canada's Strongest Man title, but he has now won it a record seven times, recording a clean sweep of all eight events in 2016.
Ten years after his first appearance, Caron has finished a highly creditable 5th place on two occasions at World's Strongest Man. Caron continues to improve; in 2017 he was just a single point behind Zydrunas Savickas at the Giants Live World Tour Finals, finishing third overall. On the way he picked-up a joint 1st place with Konstantine Janashia in the World Deadlift Championships, pulling a world record equalling five reps at 400kg. Caron himself has previously stated that “most of his career is behind him”. But what lies ahead could easily be even more impressive than what we have already witnessed!
